Yoga for Moon Salutations
Moon Salutations, also known as Chandra Namaskar, is a sequence of yoga poses that are intended to soothe the mind and calm the body. Here is a step-by-step guide for performing Moon Salutations:
-
Begin in Tadasana (Mountain Pose) at the top of your mat.
-
Inhale and raise your arms overhead into Urdhva Hastasana (Upward Salute).
-
Exhale and fold forward into Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend).
-
Inhale and come into Ardha Uttanasana (Half Standing Forward Bend).
-
Exhale and step your left foot back into a lunge, coming into Anjaneyasana (Low Lunge).
-
Inhale and raise your arms overhead into Anjaneyasana.
-
Exhale and bring your hands down to the mat on either side of your right foot.
-
Inhale and step your left foot up to meet your right foot, coming into Uttanasana.
-
Exhale and come back into Tadasana.
-
Repeat steps 2-9, this time stepping your right foot back in step 5 and then stepping it up in step 8.
Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your Moon Salutations:
-
Breathe deeply and focus on your breath throughout the practice.
-
Move slowly and with intention, allowing yourself to fully experience each pose.
-
Honor your body and its limitations. If a pose doesn't feel right for you, modify it or skip it altogether.
-
Practice in a quiet, dimly lit space to help create a calming environment.
-
Consider adding some gentle music or aromatherapy to enhance the experience.
Remember, the most important thing is to listen to your body and practice with mindfulness and intention.
